Atmospheric vintage oil painting by Martin Poser, born in Leipzig in 1909 and active in Sweden from the early 1930s. Poser maintained a studio in Marstrand, but also undertook several study tours in Europe, which influenced his artistic expression.
The painting depicts an interior doorway opening toward a sunlit exterior, where steps lead the eye out to greenery. The motif is not firmly attributable to a specific location, yet the work reflects Poser’s interest in architectural transitions, light, and spatial depth.
Executed with confident, expressive brushwork and a balanced mid-century palette, the composition contrasts the subdued interior with the brighter outdoor scene, creating a calm sense of movement and contemplation.
A fine example of Poser’s work from the 1940-50s, representative of Scandinavian modernism with clear European influences.
