This atmospheric small oil painting by Danish artist Oluf Wolmer Jacobsen captures a nostalgic view of old Helsingborg. The composition shows a quiet street lined with low yellow houses, their dark roofs silhouetted against a pale sky. In the foreground a horse-drawn cart pauses in the open square, a motif that gently anchors the scene in an earlier era when such everyday sights were part of town life.

Jacobsen paints with a loose and expressive hand. The sky is built up with textured brushwork, lending movement and light to the composition, while the warm facades of the houses glow softly against the muted ground. The painting carries a quiet, almost poetic atmosphere, a fleeting moment of a Scandinavian town before modernity reshaped its streets.

On the reverse is an interesting label from L’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, recommending the artist and identifying him as a trained painter and academy student. The printed text also notes exhibitions in cities such as Stockholm, Zürich, Florence and Madrid, suggesting an artist who moved within an international artistic milieu.

A charming and evocative small painting that combines Danish artistic training with a motif from southern Sweden, capturing the timeless character of old Helsingborg.
