A quietly compelling abstract still life by the Swedish artist Bror Stormats, painted in 1965, where form, colour and atmosphere take precedence over literal depiction. Two rounded fruits, an orange and a dusky red peach, anchor the composition, their textured surfaces rendered with expressive, confident brushwork. They sit against a background of muted geometries: soft greys, earthy browns and shadowed blacks that hint at a tabletop, a vessel, and the calm architecture of a Nordic interior.
Stormats reduces the scene to its essential shapes, allowing light and contrast to tell the story. The orange glows with a warm, centered radiance, while the peach dissolves gently into velvety tones. Around them, the abstracted surroundings pulse with broad, painterly strokes, creating a subtle tension between clarity and suggestion.
The result is a mid-century still life that feels both modern and meditative, an intimate study of everyday objects transformed into a quiet exploration of space, harmony and colour.
