Granite Hills. Vintage Swedish Oil Painting by Yrjö Edelmann

A large and highly atmospheric Scandinavian modernist landscape, painted in oil with a soft, almost dreamlike palette. Executed under the pseudonym “R. Martin”, used by Yrjö Edelmann early in his career, the composition captures a rocky Nordic terrain reduced to flowing forms, muted light and expressive brushwork.

The painting balances abstraction and landscape painting in a distinctly mid-century manner. Rounded granite formations dissolve into pale greens, icy blues and lavender-grey tones, creating a scene that feels suspended between memory and nature.
